"Boiling" Power Steering fluid

I've meant to ask about this a while back, but keep forgetting.

A while back, after some track sessions, i popped-up the hood to speed the cooling down of the engine. At one time i noticed that the fluid inside the PS reservoir was boiling, or so it looked like it.

Some of my track mates mentioned it wasn't boiling, but just looked the way it did because of the pump.

Which is which, and does boiling PS fluid degrade like brake fluid does when it comes to that point? I haven't really noticed anything different with the steering.

Thanks.

The oem one is crap, you needs something bigger than the tiny oem one, if you plan on tracking the car.

^+1 if you track regularly then you should upgrade the cooler.

Upgrade both the cooler and the fluid and you'll be fine.

Swap the cooler with flex-a-lite tube and fit design cooler, it's cheap and very efficient, as for the fluid i don't think there is a special PS flood, i think transmission and PS use the same type of oil.

Pop the hood guys... Our fluid "boils" all the time... it wasn't his tracking that did it.
It's not actually boiling, but it sure looks that way.

It's normal.

Thanks guys.

^^ I've never actually notice it "boil" under normal circumstances, but i'll start observing it starting tomorrow. So is the "boiling" indeed just a function of the pump?

Thanks again!

if you were tracking then ok it might be boiling,

But I think for the others of us, if your engine is running and you look at your ps fluid it'll look as if it's boiling, but it's the engine shaking and probably the pump that make it look as if it's boiling, switch the engine of and if it's still moving then ok it's boiling lol

Well our fluids seem like they are boiling when the car is running, but not when its turned off, its bubbling when the car is off then the fluid is boiling which is very possible after a good track session.

Power steering always looks like it's "boiling" when the engine is on, lol.

The PS fluid is subjected to high pressure, but not extreeme temps. If you're THAT concerned about it "boiling", then flush the fluid with Amsoil Synthetic ATF, and stop worrying about nothing

No news yet, i ordered my stuff in the wrong time, they're getting close to the release date and too busy to do anything, they're focusing on their S/C atm, all i know is that my VB arrived at GTM last 2 days ago, and they didn't e-mail or contact me, i'll wait for their S/C release and contact them.

Yea, PS oil if bubbling and the car is off means it's boiling, but if it's on that's natural, since the pump is working, if you track a lot then it might be a good idea to upgrade the cooler, if you don't, then leave it as it is, i don't think the fluid needs to be changed, i've never changed PS fluid unless if it was leaking and i had to chase the oil lines, otherwise i just add more oil if it's low, the best time to check you oils and fluids is early in the morning before you go to work and before you turn on the car, the fluids should be cold and settled.
