Transmission swap 5at to 7at

Does anyone know the possibility of putting the new 7speed trans from the G37 into an 08 G35xS? I realize it may be a little too soon to ask as the 09's are just about to hit dealerships but I'm pondering the idea. Looking to get the slight performance benefit and increased gas mileage that the 7speed would provide.

Believe it or not I get better mileage on my 5.0 Ltr Benz than I get on the G.

Thanks,

yes, its a very simple diy and can be done in your driveway for very little money.

It would be cheaper for you to buy a 09. There is a LOT that needs to be done to do a tranny swap, and it simply isn't worth it.

Well going to the dealer on Wed for some warranty items so I'll discuss it with them and see what they say.

So while Trans swap may be cost prohibitive what recommendations for mods would you guys make to improve mileage and overall performance. I had CAI, underdrive pulley and Cattman Y pipe on a Maxima I used to own and did see slight mileage & hp gains. How does the G react to these types of mods??

Any actual before and after dyno sheets would be appreciated.

if your dooin it to make the car faster, ur actually goin to make it slower lol
its better for mpg and its been proven that the 7 speed was only made for better mpg and not for speed. The 5A/T G37s coupe is still faster sad to say :/
but when it comes to 6MT, its a different story lmao
so if u want to do it for better mpg...go fot it but its goin to be pointless and too much money

I believe this G37 sedan 7AT is the quickest/fastest stock G35/G37 sedan or coupe ever tested by a major news mag:

According to the few tests so far, the 6MT G37 sedan is about on par w/ the G35 sedan and G37 coupe. Since the 7AT is quicker, it would stand to reason that the 7AT aids in both performance as well as fuel economy - not really a surprise since it is geared lower in 1st gear and higher in 7th gear than the 5AT G.

ya its still quick but its not the quickest
a 6mt g37s sedan will be even faster though
i've seen vids of how fast it is but when it comes down to the feet per second and mph, its not all that impressive.
there was some guy who posted the times the 7at tranny on a g37 sedan amazingly the 6mt did better but just by a bit. The new tranny wasnt meant for speed really. People might think cuz its goin to be on its powerband alot quicker doesnt mean its goin to be faster. I thought that too until i saw the numbers. I forgot where i saw it though.
Its fast, dont get me wrong but not as impressive as everyone thinks it is.

Hmmm might as well trade in your car and then you will have a 5AT to 7AT tranny "swap"

me personally, if there was an out of warranty issue with my transmission and i was already so far along with power mods.....i would do a 6 spd manual swap. tranny, ecu, clutch disc/press plate/flywheel, pedal, resevior/lines, ecu learning at dealer and done.

Having a swap severely depreciates the resale potential of the car, both value, but more so, the quantity of interested parties. Sadly, very few people want YOUR idea of what the best incarnation of the car is, I am kind of in the same boat, love my G35, but the highway RPM's are just ridiculous, 3400RPM's at 80mph. My old 2006 FZ1 (motorcycle) hovers around there. This causes bad gas mileage but more importantly, increased engine wear, which is what I care about. I am starting to look at 09 G37's and 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupes as a replacement, sad though, as NOTHING out there looks as good as the G35 Coupe...except for the Audi A5/S5 and 2013 Accord Coupe, none of which I can afford with cash for another 6-7 years.
