Replacement Rearview mirror with working arm
T25 Torx bit
Pliers/hammer/can of man
Last week my rearview mirror just fell as i pulled up into my parking lot. the arm that holds the mirror to the glass broke in 2. I did some research and apparently this is somewhat common in cars, the daily heating/cooling of the metal makes it weaken. so they will break. I went out n bought a autozone replacement for ~$12. after a day it just looked too cheap so i put the arm from the new one on my homelink mirror enabled one.
where it broke
step 1: separate the front from the back(crack the thing open) as you can see, the front part has the holes and fits into the back part. this can be opened with a small screwdriver and a little bit of force. i suggest starting on the top. because as you insert the screwdriver the soft plastic will mark, so if you mark the top, no one will see it
step 2: take the glass out and remove the T25 Torx screw
step 3: savagely destroy new replacement mirror until screw holding new arm is exposed.
step 4: remove new arm from destroyed rearview and insert new arm into homelink mirror
not perfect, but it works
step 5: reassemble and remount mirror to windshield
step 6: throw the trash away
FYI, the trash obviously doesnt consist of the homelink mirror parts lol
