Exhaust leak.. Everywhere.

Came back from a local muffler shop because after having the M2 performance exhaust($369) installed for a month, & the gaskets that it came with had melted and created gaps in EVERY section. From the cats to the muffler.

A month ago, I had them tighten everything because of the leak it originally had and now its worse and sounds like a lawn mower. What a disgusting sound coming from a G .

They recommended welding all of the pipes together (where it leaked) and attaching the exhaust into one piece basically so I won't have a leak ever again. They estimated $170-200. Which is kind of weird because if I planned to switch over to a new exhaust(or even stock), I would need a shop to rip open the welding to have the exhaust removed.. which is more money.

Would it be worth it to get it welded? or remove the exhaust and sell it and go back to stock/look for a legit exhaust (i.e. ..greddy.. hks).

Definitely the latter. Dont waste money getting it welded. Just go back to stock for now

I was thinking the same.. the fitment wasn't so great. my rear valence melted from the tip touching it, so now I have an excuse to buy a black diffuser. lol/

Even if you don't do what we're all recommending, getting new gaskets would be a better move than welding everything!!

This is what you get when you try cutting corners buying a system that doesn't come close to the quality of your OE system. (maybe) There's two issues here, you should have used the factory gaskets! If this system came with slip joints and hardware installed correctly it shouldn't leak so maybe your muffler shop sucks at what they do or don't do....Gary

thanks for the input guys, i'm going to go with the oem gaskets from infiniti first and see how the muffler shop goes with the fitment. if not, back to oem exhaust!

ugh, sucks that you're going through this. as said above, try gaskets first (and maybe even high temp red RTV) before welding. good luck!

Try some spray on copper gasket.

OP, I'm sorry, but this made me laugh! I had the EXACT same problem. I installed my M2 HKS replica by myself and it started leaking so I took it to a muffler shop. They replaced all of my gaskets with ones that have an O Ring and it solved the problem....temporarily. The exhaust started to leak again from the cats to the Y pipe. After spending a couple hundred dollars at the muffler shop, I said screw it and took the exhaust off and went back to stock. Couldn't be happier.

My advice for you is to try using new gaskets (get ones that are THICK and have an inner ring)
Then if you are still not satisfied, TAKE THE EXHAUST OFF! It's a piece of crap IMO...

I made a thread about this awhile ago. Notice how the inside ring of the gasket has nothing to prevent leaks?

Looks like you can't have the perfect exhaust. Hope you get this fixed soon.

I wish a company/vendor would replicate the replica but fix the fitment issues and other minor issues that are a common complaint. They could still keep the cost down, while providing a fantastic alternative to the crappy M2/X02 exhausts. I bet they would sell like hot cakes!

Op, hopefully OEM gaskets do the trick. Good luck!
