I'm glad to see everyone is as excited about maintenance as I am

Since I have about 10k to go before I start working on my own G, I'm going to start making the videos as I perform some of these services on other Gs.

Everyone I have talked to says that the "100,000 mile tune up" is a joke and everything should be replaced like other tune-up's, including spark plugs even if they are platinum.

While I'm on the subject not to thread jakc or anything but what kind of aftermarket plugs does anybody use? I was thinking Denso Iridium???

I have a pretty good understanding of automotive lubricants (or so I'd like to think) and to give a detailed answer to your question... well, this thread/forum just isn't the place for that kind of discussion. I suggest you just read-up on

In general though, you can run any Xw30 oil or xw40 oil and all wil be good. Some Xw30 oils can tend to be closer to Xw20 oils, so check your data when picking oil. The thicker you go, the more protection you'll have during high load situations, but your MPG will suffer with a more viscous oil. My take on it, is if you want to drive it really hard, run a thicker oil. Something like the Castrol 0w30 (german version) is excellent because it is just below what's considered a 40wt oil, I think any thick 30wt is great for the VQ, at least from the UOAs I've seen so far.

Sounds like a pretty comprehensive list. I commend you for providing this service to the board. My only suggestion would to add the fuel filter to the list. According to Infiniti, it does not need to replaced. Nissan said the about my past VQ30 and its location is the same as the G, in the tank. At 50k miles on my last car, the fuel filter was caked in sediment and I only used top tier 93 octane. Parts ran about 20 for the filter and o ring. It has a positive effect on my mpg. Like I aluded, our fuel filter will get gunked up just like any other fuel filter ever made and I think its worth while to replace. To me, not replacing it is like waiting 100k miles to do the plugs.

youtube is giving me some kind of crap about the videos being too long. I guess the max lengths is 10 mins. I'm going to post the longer vids by splitting them in half, thirds, etc..

Once I finish all the vids I'll put together a DVD (full quality) and I can ship it out or if someone wants to host it, that's fine too.
