Aftermarket sunroof?

I really, really like my G35 Sedan but have always missed having a sunroof. I'm not interested in selling and buying another with one so I'm considering an aftermarket sunroof. I'm looking for recent experiences (past 5 years) and opinions based on recent experiences.

I've heard about how horrible they used to be - always leaking and jamming or being sloppily installed. I'd really like to hear from somebody other than a sunroof installer about whether things have improved.

I had a Webasto power moomroof installed on my Crown Vic. It was super. Worked perfectly for 4 years and 100K miles and had some features that the factory ones don't have. It would close automatically when I would shut off the engine, but I could override this if I wanted to. Also, it has presets for opening to certain points in the travel. It looks factory, has a sun shade ad, NO, I am not an installer and I don't work for Webasto. Check out their web site for local installers. BTWW, it cost 1200.00 installed.

Thanks esfoad - that's the kind of helpful feedback I'm looking for. It looks like Webasto is one of the larger manufacturers.

I had an ASC aftermarket sunroof in my 4Runner for 5+ years. Loved it!
No problems at all. It had an 'auto' close feature that I wish my G had. Basically unless you 'disabled' the feature. When I shut off my truck it would close automatically. Nice! Name: 41.gif

I guess you know you purchased a luxury vehicle when pressing the "close" button is too much trouble (LOL)! The stock roof will "auto-close" if the "close" button is pressed just once. Kind of a bummer it stops closing if you try to get out before it's finished. I would like to be able to override that.

hehe true .
It was nice to not think about it AND if you opened and closed your door before it was finished, it would still close completely.

I have had two friends who had them installed in their Maxima and Accord and they never had a problem. If you make sure and don't be cheap you should be able to get one that works fine.

There is a guy at my work with an 03.5 sedan that has cloth and no sunroof. They are rare.

Hey, I had a Webasto sunroof installed on my old car... 2001 Lincoln LS. When all was done, you couldn't tell it wasn't from the factory. They did an awesome job. Headliner looked perfect, installation was great, and they even installed the sun shade thing that you close if you don't want the sun beating down on you. Def recommended.

For me. the only downside was when I switched to the "G", I kept leaving the sunroof open! Once, it started to rain but I caught it before it did any damage. Now I remember. Getting old is sure tough.

I just had one installed (Webasto) in my 05 4runner, and it leaked very badly. If I had it to do over again, I would either find a car with the factory roof, or go without.

I have had it fixed and it seems ok for now (going on a month +), but time will tell. When it leaked, it leaked a ton of water into the headliner (like a gallon).

It works great, and looks pretty stock (I am not 100% happy with the way the headliner looks, but...), but it was not worth the trouble and time off work to resolve the issues (if it is even fixed).
