Ready to purchase - G35 or 350z ?

I'm looking to purchase one of the two following vehicles. They both offer nearly identical features, there are just a few main differences. The 350z has just the 2 seats, but comes with only 74k miles and is the 6spd manual (both appealing and unappealing as i live in la) The g35 has the back seat, auto/manual trans, but has 120k miles..

Which one do you think??

Keep in mind if I purchase the g35 I will put 20s on it, similar to the ones on the Z. So don't let the rims be a deciding factor in your decision!

Z if you want to track and only need 2 seats. G if you need 4 seats / WAY MORE STORAGE!

I am bias and chose the G. But since there is way to many miles on the G, i would go for the Z. If you can, keep looking unless you just really wand a car.

that price is way too high for the g, especially in socal.

i bought mine a month ago so i am still somewhat familiar with the market price, and i don't think you should buy one with more than 100k and pay more than 11-12 with tax.

good luck tho

oh yeah and go with the G, it will be more practical in the long run and i feel like the z is becoming way too common and too many of them are high school kids just getting a license

I agree with that. A lot of people thought I had won the lottery after I bought my Infiniti, not sure why, people don't seem to recognize it as an affordable sports coupe.

But that isn't to say If I had looked around more before I bought my G then I probably would've bought a 350Z lol

Still I cant fit my paintball bag in the G. The top is just too short for the bag to fit, has to go in the back seats. and about the Z with high school kids I totally agree and I kinda wanna sell the G because its a pretty common car at my university.

I would go with the G all day long over the Z. The rear seats being one of the main deciding factors....even if you don't have friends (or kids) to cart around....it's nice to have that option available...plus you can haul things other than people back there. The back seat also makes insurance cheaper....2-seater coupes automatically have a higher rate. Besides the additional space in the G, the interior is overall MUCH higher quality and design than the Z. The Z's interior is plain, cheap, and boring. The G's have better design, uses better materials, colors, and textures. Having been a custom mobile electronics installer for several years, I've had just about every car apart....so I've come to really appreciate a higher quality interior and that's something I always look for now.

I do admit, the Z is on the sportier side, but I seriously doubt your'e going to turn this car into a full blown track car, and for that reason, I'd rather have the creature comforts and higher quality of the G for daily driving. The G has a better safety rating as well...which again, makes insurance cheaper. Besides all that stuff, the G has a much more distinguished reputation.....seems like every high schooler on the block has a Z.

Now when you factor in the mileage, I'd probably always go for a car with lower mileage, so that's the ONLY reason I'd vote for the Z. I'd personally wait and try to find a G with under 100k miles though, would be a much more level playing field then.

Really? I can fit a 35" hockey bag packed full of gear in my G's trunk without much trouble....AND I have a sub fiberglassed into one of the corners.

So glad I made this post haha great feeback guys, thanks! I've been leaning towards the G simply for the practicality, but I think what I will do now is just continue the hunt for a G with lower miles. Its funny that you mention hs kids driving the Z's, I actually saw TWO yesterday within 3-4 blocks of my house, both being driven by 18yo (looking) guys. Again, thank you all for the help!

Interior quality is a big deal for me, so I really appreciate this information. All I can really go off of the look/feel of whether I THINK its nice or not, so having some specific input is incredibly helpful!!

When I was faced with this decision I went with the G. The Z has virtually no trunk space due to the strut brace. And it has no rear seat. I needed both.

I've taken my G to the track and have no regrets. Tons of fun.

But I would not buy an AT in any car that I bought for 'sportiness'. So I'd skip that particular G.

Also, 20" rims on a G or a Z will beat your brains out. The rims on the G look like 19" Rays and they ride rough enough. They are also an excellent wheel. They are forged and very light. It will cost you tons of money to get a better wheel. Never understood people replacing Rays with heavy, non-forged bling wheels. Makes no sense.

I (like most G drivers) dealt with this same consideration before I bought my G35. The only thing was that I was buying mine new.... whereas you are buying yours used, so the price factor might play out differently now for you in that one specific area.

The G35 won, hands down for me due to the following reasons:

-G35 and 350Z are basically the same in terms of power/performance except for slight weight disadvantage of G35
-I liked the overall exterior appearance of the G35 better than the 350Z
-G35 had nicer interior and came standard with better interior luxury features that were extra $$ Add-ons if you got them on a 350Z
-G35 could have a sunroof and 350Z cannot
-G35 came with Brembo Brakes on all the 6MT's in my year of the car, and only the Track model 350Z had them (Track Model also lacked some nice interior options that the touring model had)
-G35 6MT came with sport suspension and 18" rims, all of which were extra price options or required a trim-line upgrade in a 350Z
-G35 had side impact airbags standard
-G35 had better audio system as part of the Luxury package
-G35 has rear seats and more space
-G35 had better factory warranty and also free loaner cars during warranty repairs

Overall, I was able to get a G35 with every option for cheaper than it would have cost me to get a similarly equipped 350Z, and there were still features that the G35 had of which the 350Z could not have because they didn't offer it on any of the trim-lines available in the '04 350Z.

That being said, I would go for the 350Z of the 2 cars that you posted, because the millage is so much lower.
