Test Pipes with stock exhaust

I don't want to change the tone of my exhaust a lot, just want to make it beefier and a little louder. Would test pipes be the way to go? Any disadvantages?

I noticed my car sounds really nice when being floored while the engine isn't warmed up yet, even though I know thats bad for it, thats what I am going for. Does it sound this way because the cats are'nt warmed up yet? Would it sound like that with test pipes?

Yeah that is one way to go about making the exhaust louder. I'm in the process of doing this. I am thinking of putting Strup resonated test pipes on the stock exhaust to see how it sounds. Depending on that, I may get a full exhaust or not. Disadvantages are the noise (I like it), the smell at idle (Doesn't bother me), CEL comes on (Non-foulers can fix that), and you won't be able to pass emissions (certain states) unless you have some money or know a shop that will let you get away with it. As far as would it sound like a cold start..? Not sure about that. I would think so, because the exhaust note is noticeably louder during warm-up. Good luck!

Do the test pipes....with the O2 bung attached...no CEL light....I have test pipes and a Catback and my car sounds awesome.... I went with a Magnaflow exhaust because I wanted something a bit louder when i revved it, but still quiet when im cruising, annnnnd it looks stock....

does adding test pipes alone increase volume by a lot that it would be noticed by cops?

also, i've heard they add about 10 whp, is this the general consensis?

final question, if I get resonated test pipes the CEL light will go off, but with O2 bung will it change the performance of the test pipes? how hard/expensive is it to install test pipes with this O2 bung?

you will get some nasty rasp if you pair the test pipes with the stock exhaust. I would recommend HFC's to reduce the rasp.

Resonated test pipes reduce rasp though, maybe not completely but I don't mind a little bit, I actually like a it, just not a lot, that sounds crappy.

i have nonresonated test pipes from Berk, they are really raspy lol. but the rasp only happens at heavy throttle around 2500-3000 RPM, after that it sounds really good. and starting up is really nice too.

Can I install it myself? Seems easy enough, just neet to jack the car up, slide under and replace the pipes.
