Re: Can auto G35s drift just as good?

I've heard it's very difficult to drift the z's and g's because of the interruption from all the electronics... that they'll turn on automatically even if you have them off. i suppose it's probable that you can drift an automatic.. though i think the technique would be quite different. who knows. be careful out there.

If you turn off the vdc and use the manumatic mode it should help make it quite a bit easier to control. They're not the most driver friendly car i've driven, but they'll easily get the job done, if asked nicely =)

Re: Can auto G35s drift just as good?

well i was watching best motoring and they had some japaness drift king or somthing like that and he siad you cant drift the 350z the normal way with the throtle you have to use the breakes. I have no idea how the hell you would go about doing this but i am sure if u toy with it in a parking lot u will get it. I guess the VDC will cut the throutle when u try to drift even when its off so u need to use the brakes. Good luck and be carfull with that i would hate to see u flip the G.

You can try drift an auto G35, but it would be very difficult to 'stay in' the drift. Reasons: 1) Lack of LSD, 2) Electrical Interruption, 3) Automatic tranny makes throttle control more tricky. You can throw just about any car into oversteer, but unless you can control the car after that, it's not really DRIFT IMHO.

As far as manual coupe goes, yes you can drift somewhat, but it doesn't come naturally. I tried it once or twice in the rain, as drifting on dry asphalt means burning some very expensive rubber.

Honestly, drifting is too expensive for my taste. I don't mean the aftermarket parts you need for it, but the wear and tear plus accidents are bound to happen with drifting.

i turn the vdc off and the car drifts pretty good in parking lots.its not as crazy as the ones you see on tv, but it still feels good.theres a video of a black g35 that does some pretty crazy drifting likes the car is his toy. i'll try to find it.

Re: Can auto G35s drift just as good?

1. Turn off the vdc.
2. Put it in MM mode.
3. Have the steering turned 90 degrees.
4. Hold ur brake and rev up a bit.
5. Let go the brake and floor it.
6. Keep the throttle and adjust steering when necessary.
7. Enjoy.

I've not done it so...let us know what happened...

with the vdc off, it seems really easy to drift or make the g go sideways.especially if the parking lot has gravel on the surface.

Re: Can auto G35s drift just as good?

"the G35C has crazy oversteer "

uhh... are you sure about that? I believe Oversteer and Understeer have more to do with weight balance rather than "massive 280hp + RWD" The fact that the G35 has a LOT of weight up front (after all, it IS a front-midship car...) makes it much more susceptible to understeer... The only car that really has oversteer would be a MR (Midship rear-wheel) such as the Toyota MR2... I think maybe you were trying to say that the fact that our cars have 290lbs of torque or so, the back slides out easily... making it a bit dangerous...

but you're right in saying you should always practice in a wide open space because it takes quite a bit of practice to be able to control your car during a drift...

Re: Can auto G35s drift just as good?

Donuts, burn outs, spins and short 'slides' do not equal to DRIFT. You'd know you are in a drift if you counter through the apex of an corner with your foot on gas in a controlled manner. Gross oversteer or donuts does nothing more than burning rubber and straining the structure of the car.

btw: D1GP is this Saturday at Irwindale Speedway. For those of you interested in authentic drifting, come check it out. The best drifters around the world will all be there.
