Questions about using snow chains!

Hello everyone!

So winter is coming up in a few months and I absolutely can not afford winter tires since i'd have to buy another set of rims and have snow tires installed on it and then theres the issue of having space to store them.

So, i read up about snow chains and i saw that this one guy used them and he was fine until he saw that his rims got scratched up pretty bad.

SO i was wondering is there was a way to put some kind of film over that area of your rims to prevent it from scratching? Maybe an adhesive foam thats thick enough to withstand it for some time.

Also, i read that you only put the chains on the rears. Why is that? Why not both front and back? I'm running all summer tires so thats why i would think it would be beter to install it on the front and back.

Well, you live in Fairfax, VA. I doubt you're going to have another winter like last year. I don't think you need tire chains at all. I'm from the east and have never had to use tire chains. The only time I did was when I lived in California and drove around the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Btw, chains are on the rear because those are your drive wheels.

Winters in that part and southeastern VA aren't bad at all. Western and Northwestern VA can get pretty bad at times.

I was born and raised in MI and drove there for 5 years before moving. Never drove a g35 in the snow, but I had a RWD Camaro and drove it in the snow for 5 winters. Never had snow tires, never heard of using chains...

Is the G35 really that difficult to drive in the snow?

Are tire chains even legal in some states? I thought they tore up the roads.

In some states they're mandatory on certain roads.

I'm running on summer tires and i have no space to have an extra set of rims just for snow tires.

I need to get to around safely through light snow. last time, when it was beginning to snow, i spun out all over the parkway trying to get home! So i thought about snow chains and saw that someone used them and it worked!

easy to install too, so why not?
