That's because these people probably didn't set their priorities to begin with. I can guarantee you that when I get Vortech, I will not go turbo. Why? Well, first, every TT kit for the G is illegal in California. Not only that, but its my DD. I need it to be reliable, yet fun; 420 whp/360tq on stock block will be sufficient for me until I get upgraded internals. A 400whp Vortech is so much easier on the engine than t 400whp TT due to the Vortech's linear power. The TT's huge low to mid-end torque surge is what kills the stock block.

Turbo's definately have much more potential; especially when comparing it to the Stillen. Personally, I believe the Stillen is not worth it at all considering the price. Vortech's definately have much more potential over the Stillen.

Ah... 3 more years to go until my fantasy becomes a reality

/\ that is what they all say

Boost is just to addicting and you'll want more. I said to myself that 300whp should be fun and a around 8lbs 370whp that will be more than enough for me. The first 2 months I was scared of pushing at 8lbs of boost but now I'm so used to it that my car feel so slow, serioulsy.

True. But it really isn't an option for me since I really have my priorities set. A Vortech is just right for me. If it were just a weekend car, then I would really consider a pair of TT's

Guess I'll see in the following years...

You don't really have a lot of option so staying with Vortech is pretty much it(CA suck ). I'm happy I'm on the other side of the country.

the vortech still has tons of potential though.

You just don't see many people really try to push their vortech setup. Of course there's people that suddenly realize they want huge power and jump over to turbos, but they never really extracted what the vortech is capable of.

I haven't even maxed out my setup on the stock vortech blower. I can still add another 20whp with the 34 tooth cog pulley, but for me right now, 20whp is not worth the expense/retune etc. Then there's the T-trim blower which only a few people run, but even its limits hasn't been determined yet

i don't think you should. TT is much more expensive and will not be carb legal for re-sale. i have a vortec for sale. i'n buying a new g and the vortec in my 03 sedan works great. i have several other mods that are also for sale - call me if interested. . jim k

First of all, all Factory installed turbo's use internal wastegate which limits the amount of smell.

Most turbo installed today uses external wastegate which dump exhaust fumes to open air in usully inside the hood. some people weld their wastegate exit pipe to their downpipe but that only causes backpressure.

I have no expereince with Stillen or Vortech supercharger but the Jackson Racing supercharger I had didn't require any maintenance.

The problems with turbos is that too much oil pressure can cause the seals to leak oil. Most people fix that by installing an oil restrictor and some turbos have built in oil restrictors.

I haven't seen one non-factory turbo car run w/o smelling like burning something or running way too rich.

I've driven in my Cousin's STI and you can't even smell anything besides the normal exhaust fumes. The cabin as free of smoke.

I've been in a TT G and after hitting boost, guess what, the cabin fills up with white smoke and it stinks. Long term side effect is probably cancer. You can barely see it, but when the sunlight hits at the right angle, you will see white smoke seeping through the vents.

EDIT

Okay took a quick look. The Stillen supercharger looks like a traditional supercharger. Vortech supercharger is basically the same a turbo kit, the only difference I can see is that the turbo is running on a belt system instead of exhaust fumes.

The vortech supercharger is the next best thing after a Turbo. The stillen supercharger makes a whiney sound.

+ with the vortech, you also get a BOV pssshhh sound as you would with a turbo.

/\ I'm pretty sure the smell you are getting on the TT G is because he was running some test pipes (Meaning NO CAT) Even NA owner all has that problem so you can't put that on a Turbo coz it's an Exhaust MOD.

Not all after market kit uses external wastegagte but it is recomended to use external for power more than 350whp (APS ST has internal ws). Also not every kit has an open dump as a matter of fact most are not and they don't have such back pressure because the wastegate are recirculated a little far down the exhaust.

I don't know what oil leaking problem do you have but I suggest stop buying CRAPPY Turbo System. This is a kit problem and trust me G/350Z are not that cheap and not as poorly made as your REVHARD Turbo kit

This clearly show how much you need to learn on g/350z turbo kit coz all your concern are non factor. Try to check JWT TT and you'll see how a Stock G/350z Turbo supposed to feel and sound. FYI, just in case you don't know JWT uses a recirculating valve just like stock turbo out there.

FINALLY, can you stop complainng about the Running rich crap coz that is an Engine Managment Sytem (EMS) terretory. Your Tuner dictate what A/F and timing to run on a specific RPM/LOAD, Turbo is supposed to RUN RICH even SC coz it is a safety net and also add cooling Like a SAID STOP BUYING CRAPPY EMS. Last time I check even car like EVO/STI do run around 11.0-11.5 as their target A/F on WOT.

OP, sorry for the OT, I just can't believe how people are misinformed about Turbo but if you're down to Stillen and Vortech, I'll pick Vortech any day and never look back.

I'm looking toward the Vortech myself. Even though I don't think it's ideal, it's far better than the Stillen kit for total hp (and I don't feel like hacking my hood). Turbos are awesome but I like my engine and want it to last a while. It's not so much that I believe turbos are that much harder on the car, just I'd likely abuse the car far more w/ a turbo.

My experience w/ the Vortech is limited to the V2/Stillen Kit that was on my brother's Maxima. Given his car was auto, reaching peak hp at redline wasn't ideal since the TC couldn't handle it. The car was faster than stock but barely enough to outrun the added weight of 19" wheels. He ran it w/ a 9psi pulley but the car still wasn't all that fast.

After about a year of running the SC, my brother decided to give me free reign and turbo his Max. We went w/ a single T3/T04S (similar footprint to the Garret GT35R but not the cost) and after 2 weeks of setting the garage on fire, she was running. The car was like night and day. Car put down over 300lb-ft by 3700rpm and held it past 5000 on 7psi. We were running a bigger exhaust and injectors but there's no way the Vortech could match that kind of midrange pull. On 215/19" tires the car was able to pull [email protected] w/ 2.5 sec 60' times.

My experience w/ the Stillen Roots kit was not impressive. I was at the dyno shop getting my brother's Max tuned and watched a fresh stage I 350Z from Kong's Body Shop go on the dyno. I believe it couldn't pull more than 288whp with no ability to tune for more short of adding the water intercooler and a smaller pulley. The Max w/ 100k on the clock pulled a solid ~280whp that day on my homemade kit and its old crush bent 2.5" exhaust. That was also enough to match a prototype Toyomoto Rotrex S/C IS300 w/ Haltech and GTE bottom end. It wasn't able to break 300whp at the time (apparently the low compression GTE was killing hp...bigger S/C = 350+whp).

Spoke w/ the 350Z guys at a show later on and apparently they ripped it out the next day and installed a Greddy TT. Looks much better to me now:

According to their website it pulls 410whp now.

All I will add to this discussion is that no T or TT kit is CARB legal in Cali. That made my decision pretty easy in the end and I did tons of research for about a year before I pulled the trigger. I am at 384whp right now. I have a few more things planned to get me around 410-420whp and I am done. That's pretty good for a DD if you ask me. And like sentry said . . . .

One thing you should definitely keep in mind is traction. I'm really happy with my vortech setup. I was expecting the back end to break loose on a daily basis, but so far I've had almost zero traction issues. Occassionally I'll slip a tiny bit during the 3rd to 4th shift, but that's it. Gunning it from a dead stop though, the car sticks like glue, because the low end torque is close to stock. The boost doesn't kick in until I've already established traction, and when it does, the car hauls a$$.

Don't do Stillen!!! Worst mistake of my life. Warranty is a joke and so is their Customer Service!!! Had to rebuild motor. I'll be pulling my SC'r off and either go to stock or to twins.
