ECU Reset......THE EASY WAY!!!

"Easy Method" for ECU Reset....scooped from an unknown dude.

The Easy Method:

After experimenting with different timing, and reading posts by other members, I've come up with a condensed method of doing this reset. This method works EVERY time, even w/o a stopwatch. I've used this method successfully a dozen times, or so, now w/o a watch. After a few times, you won't need a watch or instructions. You'll get so darn good at it, you'll find yourself doing it while waiting at a traffic light.

Timing is not as critical with this method...no stop watch needed. Just count in your head...one-one thousand, two-one thousand, etc, or use stop watch. The most critical step is step #3....wait 10 sec, instead of 7!!!!

1. Ignition "ON", count to 3.
2. Depress/Release pedal 5 times...hard and fast.
3. Count to 10 (not 7!) and fully depress pedal
4. Count to 12 (SES should be blinking), release pedal
5. Count to 10, depress pedal
6. Count to 10, release pedal.
7. Turn off ignition, then start engine. Done!

__________________________________________________ __________

There were allot of previous recommendations/posts on this site to use seven seconds for step 3. But the method above was spot on. I tried the 7 second pause before depressing the pedal and it went no where. I used a stopwatch and everything and tried at least ten separate times. I scooped up this method from a Yahoo questions DIY site and I nailed it in the first shot. It worked so well my SES light went away (PO223/PO123 errors were detected because I accidentally turned the car on without plugging in the throttle control sensor).

I also performed my thottle and idle sensor reset commands used from this site. You guys rock!!!!

Yeah....this method is spot on and worked instantaneously. I'm not saying the other pedal method doesn't work but I'll choose a method that is more time lenient over a method that requires perfect accuracy for the same result.

2 codes prior this...problems were fixed....applied the easy ECU reset method....codes were cleared

No complaints...

Is erasing codes by this method the same as erasing a code using the code reader??

Easiest reset is to unplug the battery for a few hours, but thanks for the helpful post anyway.

No but you should lose all your radio presets, seat position memories, and also the automatic window function. But all these can be re-programmed very easily.

It only takes 30 minutes or less to clear your ECU of error codes by unpluging the battery. Rather than clearing the codes find out what's causing them and fix it. Error codes will come back kinda like an ex-wife.

You don't necessarily lose the window position when you disconnect the battery.

Pump the brakes to empty the charge throughout the car when the battery negative terminal is pulled off.
