Antifreeze smell

So Ive been noticing a slight antifreeze smell from my car when I walk in front of it in the garage and such. I only notice it when its off because I don't usually leave it running and get out so that doesn't mean its not there. Its nothing that is strong or overwhelming by any means. Its very slight but I'm getting kinda worried and don't want anything to go out. Everything is stock except I got some Samco hoses and Nismo cap. I don't remember smelling it until I did my hoses in the summer. The only hose I didn't replace was the bottom radiator hose since its gonna be a PITA. I did spray my engine off after I did the hoses to try to get leftover coolant off the diffuser so things wouldn't smell.

Thanks
Ben

Funny...same here...same smell...hoses and a Nismo cap. I looked for leaks but couldnt find anything. I was wondering if the higher pressure cap had anythnig to do with it. I switched back to the OEM cap yesterday and seeing if that makes a diff.

Did you use OEM or aftermarket anti-freeze? Eugene^ recommends using OEM stuff....just trying to track this down cause I still got the smells! I put on some Ven-Air hoses for someone up here in Norcal...going to ask him if he gots the smell too. He used OEM stuff.

I used aftermarket stuff when I refilled what I lost. I also put in a little tap water. I know I read that can really bad but I only put in a little water. So... Do you think its the hoses maybe something letting some smell out or something?

Well now Im haveing a problem with the heat. Ill turn it all the way up to 90 and if im moving it will be fine but as soon as I slow down it goes to about half the temp it was before but as soon as I start moving again its at full temp again. I called the stealership and he said that it may be the cap so Ive put my stock cap back on. He also said it may be a air pocket but the radiator is full and has been since the spring when I put my hoses on. My overflow doesnt look like it has anything in it but the radiator is full to the top. Im geting ready to leave and see if its any diffrent now.

Theres a way to tell if you cap is bad when the car is cool if the top rad hose is sucked almost flat that means that the cap is bad. It happened to me but you should at least have the overflow bottle filled up to the min line. Also try running the car and open the air release valve on the rt side near the fire wall to get out any air bubbles

I got my radiator and theromstat replaced and I havent noticed it since. They said it had a partial blockage and the thermostat was stuck open. But I was having a heat issue thats why the dealer looked at the cooling system.

Same thing is actually happening with me...I am a little worried. Ive been noticing a slight antifreeze smell from my car when I walk in front of it in the garage. I have been smelling antifreeze outside the car. I have checked over and over again but cannot see any leaks. My coolant levels are all up, and the car does not overheat. I have done an oil change at the Infiniti dealership (its first oil change), I would assume they would tell me if they did found a leak, what do you think? Should I take it back just in case?

Hey guys, just a follow-up...I have took my car to Infiniti dealership for service and they have looked the car in attempt to find any possible coolant leaks, because they did confirm during the visual inspection that the car smelled like antifreeze outside. (slightly)

They have found NO leaks (thanks God) however they noticed that the engine had some spilled antifreeze that could have been potentially causing the odd smell. Somebody did a bad job when topping off the colant levels. They have washed it out for me and now I can significantly note that smell is almost gone. The dealer confirmed that it might smell like antifreeze for few more days until it completely fades away. To be on the safe side I have asked them to do a complete flush of my coolant.

I hope this is the case with other fellow G35 owners that have complained here about antifreeze smell.
