What kind of engine oil should I use?

I just had an oil change done at an indy shop this morning. They used 5w30. Afterwards, I decided to drop by at the dealer to confirm the shop put in the right engine oil. I talked to the parts departments and 2 technicians, and all of them told me that the G35 coupe uses 10w30. I went back to the indy shop, and they swore to me that the dealer is wrong. I called a different dealer, and they told me it's 10w30 also. So which is it? I'm very confused now. I no longer have the owner's service manual with my car.

Correct weight oil....!

If you had one your manual states 5W/30 but there's nothing wrong with
using 10W/30, that's what I use. It is worth it for your engine to use a
full synthetic oil like Mobil 1 or Royal Purple 10W/30!

EDIT: I agree with express705... use a good full synthetic oil though like Amsoil...

Wow thanks for the quick replies! Guess I'm alright for now. I'll switch it to synthetic the next time I need an oil change.

I just stick to whatever is on the engine, and go mobil 1.... it might not be the "best" but it is a big company to back their product if something goes wrong... and it kicks the a$$ out of any convential oil...

Going 10w30 is just a way to hide the fact the our engine burns oil. thats all.

What does oil weight have to do with burnoff? Ie comparing a 0w-30 a 5w-30 and a 10w-30...
All of them are 30 weight when warm and thus equivalent oils when considering burnoff, as far as I know, a 0w and a 10w30 wont have different properties in the burning engine oil sense.

i saw some tests on my350z.com that amsoil wasnt good in our engines, and my mechanic who specializes in german cars told me the same, and that it burned faster too. I tried it out before too and it burned pretty quickly. i hear the best for out cars is the castrol 0w-30 german formula
