06 G35x with Auto Transmission Problem - Slipping?

My 06 G35x has been pretty good to me since I purchased it one year ago under CPO. At the time, the car had 40k and I'm now at 61k. I log approx 70 miles per day on my commute of which 80% is on the freeway, although I encounter frequent bumper to bumper traffic during rush hour.

Maintenance Record
M1 synthetic changes oil changes every 5k
New air filter at 50k and 60k
New rotors / pads at 55k
60k service:
- M1 synthetic oil
- new air & cabin filter
- all drive belts
- diff fluid (Redline 75w90)
- transfer case (Matic D)
- ATF (Matic S)
- coolant flush

Background

Car is bone stock with the exception of the Z-tube. It is NOT driven hard, and I never use the tip function. It is my daily commuter.

As you can see, the car has been maintained meticulously and used OEM fluids when necessary. At 58k, I noticed the car would emit some burning smell while driving on the highway. Since I was due for 60k service (see above), I went to a local indy shop that I trust and mentioned the burning smell. After I picked up the car, he said he thought the burning smell was related to the ATF because it smelled pretty bad. After picking up the car, it felt great, and no burning smell BUT since then, I noticed the transmission slipping.

Symptoms

It happens only when I let off the gas, ie rolling to a stop or low speed cruise, and get back on the gas. The tach needle will move from say 1200 to 2000rpm's, but the engine feels calm. Then all of a sudden, the car jerks/buckles and gets going. But I have NO CEL...

So my question?

1. Was my transmission already toast the day I started smelling the burning smell?
2. Maybe I was already due for new fluids, but did the tech perhaps not put enough fluid in, and thus the slipping?
3. Is this a common issue / failure on the Auto transmissions?

Sounds like you need to flush the transmission and if you take it some where other than the dealership make sure they use matic j or s transmission fluid which is a synthetic fluid, and the owners manual states not to use any other flulid other than nissan matic J, but I think they changed it to matic s sometime after these cars came out. You also can have it flush at a nissan dealership which should be cheaper since the 350z has the same transmission. I called infiniti they wanted about $350 for the flush and I called nissan and they wanted $200.

It was specified in my post that I already performed an ATF drain & fill with Matic S, which supercedes Matic J.

The dip and then jump back when you get on the gas is normal, it can feel harsh some times if you step on the gas pedal over 50%, if you give it some gas it will go smoothly

Are you in Drive or MM when you do this?

Turned out that the transmission was a bit low on fluid. Topping it off solved the problem.

One of my fears!

I hope the problem doesn't come back to bite you in the future.
