Camshaft position sensor (location?)

Ran diagnostics bc "service engine soon" ", "slip" and "VDC Off" lights were on. Came up with Trouble code P0340 which means there is a problem with the camshaft position sensor. There was a recall on most 03 coupe's but ironically mine missed the recall dates by about a week. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with replacing the camshaft position sensor. The sensor is only 60 bucks, but naturally the dealship wants 350 to repair, and my local repair shop is asking 200.

SPECIFICALLY- where is the sensor located? is this a manageable job? I think there may be information in the Engine Control chapter of the Service Manual, so I may have to check that out.

The recall language calls for replacement of the camshaft sensor and possibly the crankshaft sensor (if the camshaft doesn't work).

Thanks- any advice is appreciated

Took my mechanic 5 minutes to replace...he actually teased me and said he would need the car overnight and while he opened the hood to "inspect it" siad...you're done gtfo.

there are 2 sensors and we decided on buying the right side sensor because it seems to be the one that breaks the most.

did you maybe SEARCH the DIY section? im pretty sure i wrote the DIY for this. like a million % positive i did.

anyway depends on if it is bank 1 or bank 2 i believe bank 1 is the drivers side easy to get to. bank 2 is the pass side you have to take the upper and lower plenum off to replace both parts are about 140 ea. from the NISSAN dealer more from infiniti and you can take the plenums off in about 10 mins all in all about 25-30 mins of work you can do in your driveway.

replace them both get it over with.

You don't have to remove the plenums if you know where you're going, but its a tight fit. Taking the plenum off will save you a likely headache if you haven't done this before.

same **** happened to mine. I bought the sensor at cerritos infiniti and swapped it out. I read somewhere that the little O ring on your new sensor must be slightly oiled before you install it. Either way, i took care of it, super tight fit but it got done. Let me know if anyone needs help in socal

Thanks, you were right about the recall for the 03's. So, how can I find out if mine will qualify? I think it's a 6/02 production date.

Found the following:

2003 Infiniti G35 Recall ID from NHTSA: 03V455000
Auto Recall Date: 11/17/2003
Vehicle Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
Estimated Vehicles Affected: 630000
2003 INFINITI G35 Defect Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR OR CAM POSITION SENSOR MAY HAVE AN IMPROPER SOLDER JOINT DUE TO SOLDER DEFORMATION CAUSED BY HEAT STRESS ACCELERATED BY THE EXISTENCE OF FLUX RESIDUE DURING THE SOLDERING PROCESS.
Defect Consequence:
THIS COULD CAUSE THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON, CREATE A NO START CONDITION, CAUSE REDUCED ENGINE POWER, OR CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CRANK POSITION SENSORS. CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR(S), AND IN SOME CASES, THE VARIABLE TIMING CONTROL SENSOR(S). VEHICLES INVOLVED IN A PREVIOUS RECALL CAMPAIGN, 01V357, ARE ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS NEW CAMPAIGN. THE REPLACEMENT SENSORS USED IN THAT CAMPAIGN ARE ALSO AFFECTED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON DECEMBER 22, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT OR INFINITI AT .
Notes: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC., R3021/R3022

There's a thread with DIY cam sensors says easy version in the title. All these questions are answered. A reminder, do not buy non OEM cam sensors

It has been awhile, but you push the green clip "in" then pull them apart, it is hard to explain but it is not like other clips when I say push it in more like slide it toward the sensor. They can be tricky but that is my best description of how to do it.

So I replaced both sensors and my car still takes a while to start. I originally had the P0340 fault, now that one is gone and I'm receiving a P0345 fault, service engine soon, VDC and SLIP lights. I don't know what is wrong with this car
