Chewing gum on black leather seat

One of my friends had gum on the seat of his pants when he got in my car. As he moved around he just smeared it and now there is gum residue on my seat (plus it left a shiny spot on the leather). Any ideas other then using ice that might get the remaining gum off and remove the shiny spot? Thanks.

Found this on WikiHow:
Remove Gum From Leather
Use Scotch (Transparent) Tape Press the tape into the gum and abruptly "rip" it off the leather. A couple of strips of tape should be all you need to get the job done.

I have also used peanut butter on my kids hair and carpet and it works but it could leave an oily residue on leather and your interior smelling like you just ate a pb&j sandwich in your car.
Other natural oil products that may work;
Olive Oil
Canola Oil

Good luck

Gum on my seats....Damn!

If for some reason I found chewing gum on my black leather seat I'd rush out
and buy a bottle of GooGone, but wait I already have a bottle. This product
will remove stickey from anything, use as directed!

If your seats are leather the Goo Gone website SPECIFICALLY says not to use it on natrual fibers like leather.

I used ice on clothes before, but not on leather. If you are worried about the water from the ice, try putt ice in a sealed sandwich bag.

Solution

Ok here is what I have learned other than be careful who you let ride in your car.

Solution: Use standard masking tape to remove the gum and the residue that it might leave. DO NOT try and smear the gum into one spot and pick it off because that will just smear it into the perforation holes in your seat. I used ice in a bag to get it somewhat harder so that the glue picked it off easier. Then i used a sharpie to make the inside of the holes (not on the top surface, only inside the hole) black again from where I smeared the gum thinking that would work. Then I went to walmart and got some Maguires leather cleaner/conditioner and wiped that into the leather on the seat. The seat looks pretty good now only with a few spots of shinyness. I think over time and wear, the seat will go back to normal.

Products to help: Masking tape, sharpie-ultra fine tip, maguires leather cleaner/conditioner....ice in a bag worked for me but it might have been a fluke.

I hope this helps!
