wheel bearings - who has replaced?

How loud was the noise from your bearings? I'm getting a little noise from my front end but I'm not sure if its just tire noise.

In the past the noises I have associated with bearing failure are loud and seem to increase in volume the faster you go. This is not the case for me right now.

Thanks Guys.

My rear bearings sounded like I was driving an airplane.

I replaced a front bearing after humping a curb as it was a noticeable hum when turning, felt even in the steering wheel.

The only bearing I have not changed is the front, passenger and I am thinking it's making a slight hum when I turn at slow speeds.

Mine sounds like a hum kinda but I'm not sure its a wheel bearing. I'm wondering if I just need an alignment... Its been there for a little while and doesnt really ever increase

Jack up the corner you are suspect of. Grab the tire firmly at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and "shake" the assembly. If there is any play then your bearing is going out.

the majority of wheel bearings ive replaced didnt have any play in them. and when they did, the wheel would move like an inch or so lol. they make diff noises. hums, buzzes, knocking noises.....but make turns and see which side it is that gets louder when you turn a certain way. hard left=right side and vice versa.

this is the first thing I did - I noticed no play in front driver or passenger side

interesting - its not a loud noise and I dont really notice it louder when turning at all. I could just be psyching myself into thinking its a bearing but in reality it could be just tire noise.

It seems to go away at about 35 mph...but my intake/exhaust aren't exactly quiet either.

That's true, I've had two worn rear bearings; each of them DID NOT have play until I took the wheel off and jiggled the lug studs.

I noticed one of my front wheel bearing DID have play, but I already knew it was worn since it would hum during lane changes on the highway.

You will hear a wheel bearing around 40MPH and I think the more worn it is- the louder it will sound.

I replaced my rear when I was getting humming sound, it is a very distinctive sound and cannot be mistaken with a tire sound. If you wanna check for sure find a road that has two diff types of tarmac, get some speed and see if your humming noise changes. If yes.......might be tire, if no...........it's a bearing.

and normally the humming/buzzing noise will increase with speed. if it goes away at higher speeds its prolly just your tires. are they cupped/feathered on the inside?

Did my brakes this weekend and checked my bearings while the car was jacked up. No play in the wheels at all but I do have a loud humming sound on the highway and at just normal driving in general. I'm bringing my car into the dealer tomorrow to get it checked out. Will report back then.

Just heard back from the dealer. Turns out it was my tires AND the wheels bearings. So imagine the road noise I was hearing.

Alright here is my problem. The inside noise of my car sounds like a truck with mud tires. I figured it was my tires so I took the wheels and tires off my friends g35 and took it for a test drive. The noise was slightly less but did not go away. I then took it for an alignment for unrelated reasons and they checked the bearings and they said they were fine. I dont know if that is true because they just checked for wobble in the tire. What else could it be tranny? U joint? Rear? im not sure. Thanks for replys
