$160 labor cost for compression rod bushing replacement

Hi, I received a quote for just the labor at $160 to replace both compression rod bushings at a service center near Chicago. Is this a reasonable price for the area? Thanks.

I think that's pretty reasonable. I was quoted that much to replace just one lower control arm bushing, so I'm going to try doing both LCA bushings myself and also one compression rod bushing while I'm at it.

Reasonable. Price includes the uninstall compression rod/bushing removal/bushing replacement/install of the compression rod. Pretty labor intensive.

Thank you for the feedback. Another specialty shop that works on Z's and G's quoted about the same price- ~$170..

Why not just buy new arms that have the bushings? I would figure it would be cheaper to do that and install shouldn't be much.

The bushings are less than $20 a piece online and even with the labor charge, it's half the price of buying the compression rods which cost over $300 for the pair plus labor to install.

You can find them on ebay for under $100. Just recently I saw a pair go for $100 shipped.

They were used rods. I haven't seen any new ones at that price.

That's definitely a fair price.

The bushings are 60, so 100 for labor?

I wish I could a shop like that around here.

I did it myself, and it isn't bad if you an impact.

Actually, I bought the bushings for $42 shipped online. $160 was just for labor.

Which bushings did you buy? Might as well get the SPL ones and get it done right the first time.

Ended up buying the OEM Infiniti ones again from a dealer.

yeah but the dealer wont charge tsb time. thats factory warranty pay. this is customer pay so it will be more. and yes, it is labor intensive....more from changing the bushings rather than removing the part itself.

It's hard to find a shop that specializes or is good with aftermarket or uncommon installs and etc.

There's an awesome shop like 45 mins away from me that quoted me $160 for the compression rod bushings and the LCA bushings for $160. Then I went and called Pepboys and they didn't know wtf I was talking about. The guy had to spend like 10 minutes looking it up on the computer then he said $140 for the compression rod bushings and either $200 or $130 for the LCA. He wasn't sure, but I'm sure it was the $130 one. Still though.. that ridiculous.. going to do it myself.. even though $160 isn't bad at all.
