New Brake Pads = burning smell

I just replaced my front pads w/ Project Mu NS and my rears w/ OEM pads. I did the recommended bedding of the pads (several hard stops from 60mph w/o coming to a complete stop), but I immediately noticed a strong burning smell. I've read that this is typical of hot rotors after repeated hard braking.

Can anyone confirm that this happened to them immediately after changing the pads and doing the bedding-in process?

Also, is it necessary to bleed your brakes every time you change the pads? I noticed that the bite isn't strong consistently...sometimes it is sharp and strong like when I got the car brand new...other times it is soft/spongy. I assume it will get better once the pads are really broken in, but wanted to hear thoughts.

new pads will typically smell 'burnt', this should go away. did you clean everything off with a brake cleaner? could be some oil got on the rotor or pads and this is what you are smelling.

You only need to bleed your brakes if you loosened the bleeder valve to push back the piston.

I got the same feel with mine for the first 30 miles or so. Once I did some hard braking, th burnt smell went away and the peddle felt stiff like it should. Did you change rotors and pads or just pads and if so, what did you change to?

I only changed the pads and don't think I got any oil/grease on the disc/pads..maybe just a little. So I didn't clean everything off...but I do have brake cleaner stuff...maybe I should do that...

I compressed the piston without oopening the bleeder valve...just followed the DIY to compress it with a clamp and old brake pad.

Well perhaps I just need to wait a bit w/ normal driving. The instructions on the Project MU box are written in "broken" english, and it mentions that i should drive normally and after 20+ miles, the bite will be return. I just wasn't sure if I was interpreting the broken english correctly.
