I'll have to disagree. I had none of the problems with the 3rd gen that I do with the 4th. It's not just with the car adapter. I'm seeing kookiness with all my 3rd party docking devices.

Do you have a picture without the ipod in? It seems you still put some clips in there to hold it... can you tell me what you used? Thanks man.

the key is the base plate.

The base plate is actually the mount plate from the box the nano came in. Look at the left side that holds the top of the nano you should recognize the piece. I used a dremel to trim the plate to the width of the nano and cut off the lower mount so only the top one remains. for the bottom I just put a pin in there to keep the nano pressed in to the top mount. Holds it very securely while making it easy to remove.

I'll see if I can snap some pics later.

ok this is the piece from the original packaging:

This is the same piece trimmed down, bottom mount cut off, painted black and epoxyed to the ashtray swivel:

The gray dot is just a stick on foam rubber pad to cushion the nano in the mount. There was also a good deal of dremeling to the ashtray swivel piece to get a flat surface to epoxy the plate to but like I said a couple hours start to finish and no major issues.

I've collected a few of those mount plates from other nano owners so if you no longer have yours or just don't want the hassle of trimming it down painting etc. I will send you one ready to install for $10

^^^Thanks! Nice job.

I'm going to use a similar method, but I also want to be able to make it a little less permanent. But I haven't figured that out yet. It would be nice to still be able to use the ashtray as a coin bin. Also, when I sell the car, I don't want to have to deal with that modification.

By the way, for those that are using the USA Spec, you should be able to use cable part #CB-PA85 to charge the newer 12v ipods. It costs $20-30.

I can dig it. I'd rather throw some switches in there though.
